Vestal Mfg. Products
Three brothers returning home after serving their country in World War II had the desire to start their own company. Thus the Vestal brothers founded Vestal Manufacturing Company. The Company has operated a gray iron foundry and a steel fabricating plant in Sweetwater, Tennessee from the very beginning. The first products manufactured were wood heating and cooking appliances. In the early fifties a line of agricultural products (soil pulverizers and seedboxes) were added to the product line. However, the major growth of the company occurred in the middle fifties with the addition of cast iron and steel products used in masonry fireplaces and the single-family home construction market. Even today our type building products remain the brand name recognized in this marketplace.
In 1964 the Vestal family sold the business to the Celotex Company of Tampa, Florida. The fall of 1964 saw the merger of Celotex with the Jim Walter Corporation, also headquartered in Tampa.
